Farmhouse Garden Design & Build
A relaxed, rural garden with rustic charm and natural beauty
This recently completed project saw us transform a traditional farmhouse garden into a welcoming and relaxed space that blends beautifully with its countryside surroundings. With a focus on natural materials, soft planting, and gentle structure, the design reflects the laid-back character of farm life while offering a thoughtfully built and functional outdoor space.
A Garden That Belongs to Its Setting
We worked closely with the garden designer, Tina Vallis and client to create a space that felt in keeping with the agricultural setting—robust, low-maintenance, and quietly beautiful. At the heart of the garden is a handcrafted timber pergola, offering shelter and structure while anchoring the seating area. Climbing plants will eventually weave through it, softening the lines and adding height and seasonal interest.
Key Features of the Farmyard Garden:
Timber raised beds with wildflowers – These large, rustic beds bring colour and biodiversity to the space, attracting pollinators while keeping the planting informal and naturalistic.
Brick-edged borders – Reclaimed brick detailing gives subtle structure and defines the transition between lawn and planting, tying in with the rural architecture.
Gently sloping lawn – Rather than flattening the site, we embraced the natural contours of the land. The soft slope gives the garden movement and flow, leading the eye toward the open fields beyond.
Natural materials throughout – Every element—from the pergola to the pathways—uses materials chosen for their durability and authenticity in a rural setting.
A Space to Relax, Gather, and Grow
This farmyard garden is all about relaxed enjoyment and easy living. Whether it’s gathering under the pergola with friends, tending to the raised beds, or simply taking in the view from a garden bench, the space feels grounded, open, and full of life.
